Trailer Wiring Harness

Does anyone have or knew of an alternative method to the $155.00 or more "Trailer Wiring Harness" for a D-90???

Does Hitches4Less.com have something that will work, customer service for this place has no clue or they do not think so!!!

Would appreciate some feedback...

They have generic harnesses for any car that you should be able to wire in. They sell them at Auto stores and maybe Wal-Mart. If you had a volt meter you could wire them into the rear lights behind the PS rear speaker just like the $155 version. Just my $.02

By wiring them into the rear lights on the PS side, I should get total use (left turn, right turn & stop)???

Yea, I think all the wires come up threw that side then drop down and go over to the other side. It looks like a big mess but it's not that bad.

What I bought at the dealer was overpriced, but not $155. It was just a plug with wires on it, that attached to the socket located behind the right rear lights. You can do the same thing by splicing onto the wires running to the lamps themselves.

Remember the D-90 has separate turn and brake lights. You need a converter box that converts this to single turn/brake light (per side) for the trailer. These can be picked up at any auto parts store pretty cheap.

This is the converter wiring harness I was thinking of getting:

Does that look right? I can't find the original LR connector in the wheel well, thinking that I might have gotten removed by a PO. I was thinking of splicing this in by the frame, next to the PS rear tire, then run the 4-pole connector to the hitch.

I think you can do it wothout the converter but I am not sure. I looked at my wiring some time ago and I did not see any converter. But it is only $30 so I say go for it.

Ken, finding the connector, appears to be a problem for me as well, as for the converters & wiring, no problem (the one you states is nice)...

Looks as if I will be splicing...

Got one more question & it may come accross as a dummy question but I need to ask???

The stock tow bumper, is it attached to the frame, I guess bumper applied to tow does not seem right, will it support a transport trail OK, a size of about 6' x 12'???

Charles, Ended up not getting a trailer so, no I haven't installed it. Sounds like everyone thinks it's the right thing
