Stock D-90 replacement shocks...

I've got a stock D-90, and I can tell the shocks are in need of replacing in the New Year. As I'm not planning on doing anything major with the vehicle (no big mods), what would you all recommend as a replacement for the shocks? I daily drive it, so comfort (if at all possible!) is most imporant.

I'd like to avoid OEM, if there's something better...

Get the Bilstien set, all around. (Same here) RN has a sale on them now.

Bilsteins are the way to go. I just picked up a pair... myself.

Just remember Bilsteins are not warrantied for off road use.....

"Krupp Bilstein of America warrants its gas pressure shock absorbers against defects in workmanship and materials for as long as you, the original purchaser, own your car.

If at any time after purchase or installation, the shock malfunctions and Bilstein determines it to be defective, we will either replace it or repair it.

There are only a few specific exceptions to this warranty. They include:

1. original equipment shock absorbers - which are warrantied by the vehicle manufacturer,
2. improper installation,
3. racing, driving competition or off-road use,
4. use on modified or other than Bilstein-recommended vehicles."

A friend of mine had Bilsteins on his Camel Disco - two shocks broke in quick succession. He is a gentle off roader. Bilstein refused his warranty claim. he is still fighting it.

OMEs give a softer ride.

I disagree with the OME's. They can be fitted, but they are designed to be used with OME springs. When I was researching shocks, the feedback I got from everyone, including ARB USA, was that the OME's were to long for stock applications.

They do offer softer ride when coupled with the OME springs, but you're better off with Bilsteins which are designed for the stock parameters. Further, the Bilsteins are a much better shock than the OME's.

The bilstiens are a nice ride, and have other benefits as well.

And yes, bad advice to tell someone with stock springs to fit OMEs, unless theu're going to fit spring retainers as well.

The shock is longer and the spring can unseat at full articulation because the shock itself is what limits the droop (downward travel of wheel/axle).
