Hey all, I have tried searching for about 15 mnutes and get the hated "page not found" error and am at the end of my line, so in advance, I sincerely appologize for this redundant thread cause I KNOW I have seen this info posted before. So :rolleyes , here goes....

Recently my 95 D-90 tach started bouncing down to 0 and then back up to indicate an accurate (as far as I know anyway) reading of engine RPM. It is intermittent and will flutter up and down as I drive. There is no other indication. I thought I had read it had to do with an alternator connection, and did check those and the connection on the back of the tach. Any enlightenment is greatly apprecaited. Thank you all in advance.

Yep there is a small wire on the back of the alt, make sure it is on their good and tight. Maybe run down to autozone and have them test the alt for you to make sure it is good.

sometimes brushes will do it. they are cheaper than a new alt.

Thanks guys. If it the alternator, is there a considerably better option to the stock LR one? Thanks again!

In my RRC i used a British Rotating Electronics one that I purchased from DAP, and didn't have problems with it for the rest of the trucks life. You could also look into having a local alt. and starter shop re-build it. I have had a local shop re-build one of my alt.s and the hot-rodded it for a bit more power.
