Most of you guys know I bought a 94 D90 for $15K. After getting the D90 I discovered that there were some issues that were not mentioned, like check engine light, under body rust, bulkhead and other small problems. However, I'm not blaming the seller; it's my entire fault, so let's not talk about this issue. My problem is should I sell the truck, or should I take it a part and rebuild it? At this moment I'm looking into buying a business and a house so most of my money is on hold, plus my job just moved to the next level where now I have to work through out the county vs. Highlands Ranch only, review plans, blah blah blah plus I have nobody to help me out with kids and some of you know I'm a full time single dad so I don't think I have time to rebuild the truck and my fear is if I try to sell the truck I will take a big hit on it. What you guys think?
Sorry to boar you out but I'm just lost here and need to hear some idea’s.

Well rebuilding it isn't going to happe at anything other then a snails pace with everything else going on. Selling it may take a while due to the condition that it is in so if you don't mind waiting a little while then sell it. If we wern't going into winter I would say send it out here and i'll work on it in my spare time (no kids, no house, no buissness = plenty of time) :) take pics of the work and get it done at slightly faster then a snails pace :grin

Haha the amount of $$ it will take to ship the truck back and forth i could use it to buy all the parts I want :)
You think getting the $15K will be hard? You can sell the mods out of it for easy $4-5K which makes it a $10K D90.

At 10k it will sell pretty quick, do you have the time to remove the mods and sell them?

Yousef-
My advice after having worked on and owned at one time a rusty defender is sell. I think you will find endless items to address over time inlcuding the frame. I see it as cut your losses on the front end or you will end up spending more on the back end. Somebody posted a link to the Solaros board about a high mile green defender that bear valley may have that was ~14k. It may be worth checking with them and depending on the condition relative to yours you may be able to work out a trade. Otherwise try to sell it for what you have in it, or at least what you paid for it and move on.

The dealer checked the frame and it is in good shape. Most of the stuff you see is the undercoating coming off. The rear axle look bad but I have a replacement, same as the gas skid plate. I think I'm going to sell it for now and build one later when I have the time. So far I'm at $16400 :(
Follow-up Post:
Mike, yes I do have the time but I'm going to see if I can find buyer to take it as is.

hi there,
i am a single dad as well, and i would recomend with your life and the amount of things you have going on to sell it. post it for 15k and go from there, anybody who is going to buy a d90 should expect to do some work on it. i'd sell it if i were you, there will come a day in your life when things settle down and you will be able to put the time and energy into a different d90. besides you are in colorado you should be able to sell it no problem for 12-15k.
good luck.

Selling sounds like the prudent plan. Unfortunately you have to take the hit. I spend more time, effort, and money than I would like trying to keep rust at bay or try to eliminate it all together if at all possible. Any major rust related repairs sound like a nightmare.

Sell your kids, see what the market will bear. Then take the money that you got from your kids and build up your truck. Sounds like I just took care of 2 problems at once for you.

So, do you still want your springs? Probably not, I am guessing. PS: If you can't joke about your kids, who can you joke about? :)
edit: No offense meant.

Should have stuck with me. I am used to dealing with indecisive Land Rover owners.
Bar hoping. Where are your priorities. You have a Land Rover at home that needs you.
We can't help you if you don't help yourself.

I think we all have made this mistake at one time or
another.
Don't dwell on it, sell the truck...take the loss...go on
with your life and maybe with the money, give the kids
a nice christmas;)
There will allways be another truck out there, waiting
to be rebuild...
Good luck

I say that if you're going to sell it, why not try to make a small profit in the process? Winter is coming and as gas prices come down you should be able to at LEAST break even.

That's what I'm thinking about. If the D90 doesn't sell by the end of this month I'm going to fix it up. Selling the hardtop and badger top should give me more than enough $$ to fix it up, make it pretty, bring it back to stock, and sell it for $15K. The other left over mods I will use for profit.
