I'm told my front brake calipers no longer contract. This is a problem because I will need new pads soon and I can't open the calipers to install the pads at this point. My truck came from Mass. originally and has seen a few tough winters.
Anyone ever re-built a set of front calipers with success?
Any suggestions of where I can find the best value in a new set if these can't be re-built economically?
Thanks in advance.

Roversnorth has an exchange program. They seems pretty decent and came with pads. By the time you buy new pistons it is probably better to get full rebuilds.

Call British Pacific they have the lowest price on genuine Lockhead rebuild kits. I think mine were 72.00 a peice and come with all four pistons and seals. They are easy to rebuild.

Clay,
let me know how it goes. I got back from the dealer a few weeks ago with an $ 1800 estimate for caliper and brake work.
Could not do it. But if my brakes freeze again - time to get them hands dirty...er
I can say, British Pacific are excellent to deal with. Really helpful and informative.

Thanks for the tips. I'm looking into RN and BP now. I'll post my results when all is said and done.
Thanks again.

Just spoke to both BP and RN. RN has rebuilt calipers for under $100/each including pads. BP will sell you a caliper kit which includes seals and pistons for $75.
RN is a no brainer.
Thanks for the advice everyone.

Good luck! Make sure to send back your cores for the next guy.

will do. that $200 core charge is also a good incentive. thanks for saving me $800-$900+ Ron.
