Could someone give me some information on the hidden/concealed winch that i have seen from Rovers north....They only have it for 94 and 95 model defender 90's...Anyone know where or from what other companies i may be able to find a hidden/concealed winch. I have a 97 D90 so if anyone has pricing information or other information i would appreciate it...

thanks,
Jason

Yeah phillip,
I saw that one on mantec but thats not the hidden i have seen....The one that I have seen only shows the Roller Fairlead while the rest of the winch is hidden behind the bumper.....Maybe you have seen this....

I think thats what offered from LR? My understanding is that with that setup the winch gets exposed to alotta road grime etc. etc. Warn used to make a nice looking setup for the D-90.

I think most winches are "hidden" in the bumper

I am not quite sure, but an ARB Bull Bar might "hide" the winch. I know that when I had one on my J**p, the winch was actually mounted underneath and up-inside the bumper. It was a cool setup, but I am not sure how the D-90 version of the ARB works.

BTW, I just bought a Rockware and I love it. I have not put it to hardcore use yet (as I have only had it for almost a week), but so far I highly recommend it.
Just my $.02

A hiden winch is a Pain In The A$$. Accessing the free-spool lever checking conections and actully seeing if the winch is spooling correctly is very difficult.

Ditch the stock bumper and get some real protection and a real winch mounting piont. $afari Gard, Rackware, or my favorite ARB all make nice setups.

Thats just my opinion I could be........... Naw I couldn't.

Cheers

Yeah I just like to keep the overall appearance of my 90 stock.....But I appreciate the information.....I am gonna put a winch mainly for looks. I mean my 90 might see a dirt road once in a year......But I will check into these options

Jason, yes that is one of the original bumpers that were offered from LR with the Defenders.

I have one of those sitting in my garage with the tray from when we switched to the SG bumper. It used to house a Warn 8K and with the sump guard in place the previous owner had cut an opening in it so you could work the free-spool lever.

Check out the pics on the G-4 challenge I took. THere is a nice stock looking bumber but still has a winch. I think its a mantec.

Jason-

Bolt a roller fairlead onto your stock bumper. Drill a hole in the middle, stick a piece of cable through and attach a hook..:thumbs

Jason, The pic that Mike referenced is of my truck. I snapped a few others this morning and can email to you if you'd like.

Randy, Is this the pic you were refering to: http://www.d-90.com/trail/g4/nyc/pages/g4_nyc23.htm
That sure looks like a Mantec. I've heard a few things about them that make me wonder. Dave Marchand posted before that he saw one that had crumpled when one of the corners hit a rock. I think that Troy Smith has one and said that he reinforced his for similar reasons.

I watched that Mantec get crumpled. Then I did the same thing, but only scratched the paint on my ARB. We had to winch the corner out on the Mantec so the tire could turn.

Jason;

I installed the factory winch bumper and "A" bare that was offered for the D90's. I both saw and heard about them being flimsy so I reinforced mine. Basically rebuilt everything but the winch carrier itself. I would be glad to send you some pictures. I will try and send a shoot of my set up after I read how to attach a picture... Sorry, I'm not a computer guru.

Troy, do you have the stock bumper or the Mantec on the white SW?

Ken;

It is a stock set up that was offered by LRNA. I am almost certain Warn built the winch and winch set up. It looks very similar to the a factory bumper except for the center portion to accomadate the winch.
