My D90 recently got exposed to a bit of rain with the top off and the center console out, and ever since, there is a grinding sound from the drive train whenever i press the clutch in. Any help? I can`t for the life of me locate the sound, but it sort of sounds like it is towards the center of the car.

Bad news, it's when you push the clutch peddle in right? That would be the sound of the throw out bearing, it only costs about $20 or so but you need to seperate the tranns and the engine to get to it.

Yup, def the throw-out bearing if it's when you push the clutch in. How bad is the noise? Some small bit of noise is not unusual in higher-mileage cars....

Did you try pouring oil down the same places the rainwater went through? ;)

Nate - if you want we can meet up and I'll tell you if its the TO bearing.

It'll piss you off when you see the new bearing come out of the box - not nearly as irritating as the "plastic staple" though.

the noise is pretty speradic, but when it does grind, it is pretty nasty.

I might take you up on your offer, Jim, once I am back in town towards the end of December.

Did you take the D back to Boston?

no, not yet. I don`t intend to do that until August or so. Still quite a few more projects before I feel that the truck will really be ready to make it all the way.
