what are the differences in performace etc when change the "resolution" sorry for lack of tech savyness but wtf does resolution do? I thought the more the better when taking photos but i still dont understand?

Phillip.. If you have a fairly modern computer, changing the resolutions will generally not impact your performance noticeably unless you really boost the display to True Color (24-bit) mode, which really can tax lower end machines.

Changing resolution is basically increasing the amount of pixels that can be displayed on your monitor. The larger numbered resolution you go, the more you can get onto the viewable screen. The downside is that as you increase the amount, the small the picture will look but you will be able to see more of that picture so you would want a physically larger monitor so you don't need a magnifying glass to see what you are working on.

Here is a screen shot of a my screen resolution on a 19" monitor set for 640x480:

Now again, on the same 19" monitor, the exact same screen but this time set for 1280x1024 resolution. As you can tell, you can see a lot more and have lots more room to work with multiple windows and spread out a bit:

Killer... I need desktop space that size. Been thinking how to scam Apple 23" & 17" flat screens for my PC.

Not when it's on 2 side-by-side 21" monitors. I used to run them at 3200x1200 but found I didn't need that much desktop space.
