Wow, I am really surprised you guys didn't see what it really is. That Bronco owes absolutely NOTHING to the H-2, it's got a long lineage all it's own! Cosmetically it's based totally on the original 66-77 Bronco's.

When I first saw the pictures, I was ready to run down to Ford and beg my way onto a waiting list... I was a rabid early bronco owner, and still get upset when I think about the day that truck got sold.

But then I looked into it further. If it comes to the US, it will be based on the Brazilian Ford Ecostar. Bad news. Biggest engine is a 2.0L 4cyl. That thing is looking more and more like competiton for the Honda CRV and Toyota Rav-4, which is not what I want. I was hoping for a powerful little competitor to the Wrangler.

One can only hope.

I don't think ford is stupid enough to sell that truck with a 4 cyl. If it does get sold here, it will be "americanized" I would think, with a 4.6L V8, or at the very least, the 4.0 V6. My wife has already told me that she wants one if they make it to production. I have to agree that it looks nothing like the ugly-a** H2's, def. like the early Bronco's.

No, I immediately saw it for what it was. There are many stylistic nods to the old Bronco (which I love as well)...but they're just that...styling pieces. They've done the same thing with the T-Bird and the Mustang...throw in a few 68-69 pieces, and we're supposed to be nostalgic about those great cars from the past--and apply it to this new thing they're offering. And they all look cool--definitely.

But, in reality, aside from those things, it's as much a derivative of the H2's success as anything else. If that didn't have HUGE sales, we'd never see a Bronco concept.

I hope they do it. If they make it pretty close to as-is, I'd consider one. (Or the Land Rover alternative!)

I'm not too sure that ford wouldn't do it. The Ecostar is supposedly a good seller in Brazil and Mexico.

I did mail out a letter to ford today basically telling them if it's a 4cylinder, then I'll just buy from somebody else. Given the similarites between the D-90 and Early Broncos, I also suggested maybe re-body the Defender and call it a Bronco. Not the optimum solution, but i'd take it.

I'd say definitely Early Bronco looks. Will be interesting to see what they do with it - and hopefully it goes up against the Wrangler and not CRV.

Those numbers don't look too bad actually for engine performance, and can hopefully be bumped up a bit. Did you have a link for the press release?

I'd have to say I like the idea of factory 33's also, if it goes into production.

Ok, that does make me feel better. Though I would prefer a fully removable top and a real roll-cage rather than "roll bar accents".
Full time computer controlled 4wd is another plus for me too, hopefully it has a center diff lock in it.

Whoops, let me rephrase that.

I'm not quite a fan of computer contolled 4wd, but it is better than what I originally thought it would have. Though if it's something similar to what I am guessing the transfer case will most likely act like a self-balancing limited slip normally, but can also be fully locked when needed.

It's still a new system, so I'll need to research it more to find out exactly what it is. Hmmm, I wonder if James Duff will make accessories for it?

I looked closely to see what type of suspension it has, and in some pictures the front almost definitely looks to be IFS.
