D90 storage

I must store my 95 D90 SW for 18 months while on military deployment. I have a garage at my home and I live in the Southeast. How should I focus my attention in my effort to prepare the Defender for storage? Thanks,

Apart from the usual, I'd probably jack up the frame so the springs can relax the whole time. Might want to wipe some rubber conditioner on all the rubber as well.

More caution could be applied when you first run it after returning I might imagine. You might arrange for a friend to stop by once a month and run the engine. Otherwise disconnecting the battery might be in order but there may be side effects of that.

yeah i think sit the frame on jackstands. people always tell me its better to keep your gas tank full or moisture will collect? i would disconnect the batt. I bet there are some fuel system additives for storing.

Kidding aside, I see a product all the time on those infomercials called "stabil". I think it stabilizes the oil in your engine. Haven't used the product ever but, hopefully someone can comment about it. I'm sure there are other products out there.

Sonny, key is the gas and engine areas. Disconnect battery. In 18 months, there will be breakdown of the gas. I do not recall if an empty or full tank is better, but additives are a must. Good place for advise - if there is a boating store near by ask them. They store boats in the off season (opps, l I see you are in Alabama so thats dumb advise). Yoh, any NE input?

As I do with a boat for winter storage this would be good to do with any car stored for a period of time. Change the oil, fill the tank and put Stabil in it. Buy a can of engine-stor from any boat store. You spray it into the air intake while it is running and it coats the cylinder wals with an oil to help prevent condinsation and rust on the cyl walls. When you go to start it after a few months it just smokes a bit for about 5 min. till it burns the oil out.

And yes, full tank is right. I think Rover engines detuned as such can pretty much burn anything that will explode under pressure, but err towards caution. ;)

I have been doing that winterizing for years on my boat which has twin Merc 420's which are a 420hp version of the 454.. I never had a problem. Start right up every spring.

back to the stuff you spray in the intake would you have to by pass the MAF? i have heard bad things about when the oil from K&N's get on them????

Yes, spray it directly into the intake so not to fowl the sensor..
