Here's the carrier without the frame mount. I don't have any pictures off-hand of the bottom mount but you can see it from any rover that has the mantec carrier, e.g. John Lee or Kevin Collins. Best investment you can make on your SW Phil! I guarauntee you'll be happy with this mod!! I wish I wouldn't have waited to do it because the spot-welds on my rear door snapped before I got the carrier!

I'm glad Phil asked this because I'm also currently looking at tire carriers and the Mantec is at the top of my list.
Can those that have them indicate who they bought them from?
Thanks.

I have a Mantec Spare Tire Carrier on mine SW as well and highly recommend it. I purchased it from 4x4 Connection in Winchester, VA. I think he just happened to have one at the MAR in 2002 that I took off his hands. I am not sure if he is a Mantec dealer or not.

Got mine from Simmonites UK.

Hey DJ,
Did you have any trouble with the frame mount like having to remove the bumber?
Did those reflector holes get in the way of your drilling?
Thanks,MM

DJ Menasco

Nope! You just pop that plastic reflector off and drill into the rear X-member. No need to remove anything but the speaker fascia inside.

Do you guys remember what these units cost?

DJ Menasco

I believe mine was about $360 including shipping. I bought mine through a company called Stable Energies in NJ (http://www.stable-energies.com/). They, in turn, got it from Saftey Devices UK (http://www.safetydevices.co.uk/oldsite/4x4/index.html). If interested in this route just give them this P/N: RBL1680SWC [B]

Safety Devices unit or the Mantec one better? Which requires less drilling?

DW BP doesn't have a special running at the moment which is why you dont see them in that section. Since the site does not do "Ad Banners" and such, the Specials section allows Vendors more visibility on the site in exchange for offering an exclusive special to site visitors. When a special expires, the vendors page is pulled from the section. All the specials listed in there should be current and honored if you call and mention the site or reference code if provided.

On another note in case anyone was going to email or post, I went through the section last night and found some link problems that will be corrected this weekend.

If anyone is looking for Satety Devices stuff, check out www.stable-energies.com . The place is about 2 miles from my house and I spoke with the owner the other week. He said He will be stocking LR parts for D-90 and Discos. I gave hime CVC's email because he was interested in running some specials since he is new in the LR stuff.

He doesnt have anything posted yet for Rovers that I could see. Very cool Randy, thanks. I hope to hear from him. Nice to know he is close enough for people in this area that it would save shipping costs.

I have a few questions with mantec carrier. First , do you only have to drill 2 holes in body and 2 holes in rear frame member? Second does the stainless looking part that mounts in center of door have some sort of sliding action when door opens? And does the carrier opens with door- no extra latches? And last but not least, do you hear any rattling of the carrier?

>I have a few questions with mantec carrier. First , do you only >have to drill 2 holes in body and 2 holes in rear frame member?
Two in the tub & three in the rear cross-member.

>Second does the stainless looking part that mounts in center of >door have some sort of sliding action when door opens?
Yes, it slides in & out and is attached to the inside of the carrier.

>And does the carrier opens with door- no extra latches?
The carrier is attached to the door via the sliding latch on the rear door. The carrier does not separate from the door like the Safari Gard carrier.

>And last but not least, do you hear any rattling of the carrier?
None Whatsoever!

Wicks, the Safety Devices carrier IS the Mantec Carrier.

Thanks DJ for beta, sounds like the most thought out /engineered product so far. Do you windsurf or kite? I spend a few weeks in hoodriver every summer sailing. Maybe i will drag my 90 out next summer. JP

No prob!

Actually, I don't take advantage of Hood River! But I do know that when I buck the wind traveling on I-84 I can only go 55mph!!
