I'll be fitting a single Optima this weekend in place of the original factory battery in my '97 D90 - the cold snap just killed it.
Can I retain the factory bracket? Seems that since the holding "pins" will be vertical they may be too tall for the space.

Hi Art, yes you can use the factory bracket. I put a single Optima in my '94 and its fine. Here you can see a picture of John Lee's '97 (running 2 of them) but still using what looks to be the factory bracket as well.

Does anyone know if an ARB compressor would also fit in the compartment with 2 optimas?

sure would, just have to change where the batteries sit in the compartment. You can fit other stuff in there too.

Well, to use the standard bracket you must cut a bit off the top of one of the vertical holddowns - the one to the rear. It is too tall as is and impedes the cover.
In John Lee's setup it appears that this is what he did as there is very little bolt left on the rear holddown.

actually we use 3 in the battery compartment along with winch solenoids and compressor stuff. No Optima but Exide Maxxima...almost same dimension.

I've been considering replacing my regular batter with one of the ones like you've all described (another thread from a little while back). As I don't do a ton aside from daily commute with my D-90 yet...I'm thinking maybe I might as well put in a second while I'm at the job...I'm just thinking ahead.
So...you're all doing that so you can run accessories and such while you're out for the weekend?
I see the cusom wiring set-ups...where did you get those? What's they cost? They look like kits.
Thanks!

Art, here's it what I did. Let me know if you'd like any help or want to meet up! Didn't realize ANOTHER Arles SW '97 owner was so close by...:grin
I'm hoping to cram my ARB compressor in there, just might take some creative thinking.

The wiring is custom made using the best quality material (see how's flexy). Soon it will be available via my website.
