Brass Radiator Plug

Well, i fell victim to advertising and bought one of the brass radiator plugs thinking my plastic plug was going to melt any day now. So i put it in ran the truck for a little while and watched as the fluid raced out of the radiator. The O-ring that is supplied doesnt seem to fit ontop of the radiator, it just expands and folds over the edge. So i took the o-ring off and tried it again, same things, i put some tape on the threads, no luck....
Has anyone got one of these fancy plugs, and does yours leak?

I have the same problem. Got the brass plug from BP and it leaks. I've tried teflon tape and same problem.

Maybe we got a bad batch of plugs.

Sounds like there are 2 plugs out there.

I have the Maxi-drive version they sell @ EE. Works fine and I have never had one issue with it.

Sounds like the BP one has issues?

I had that plug blow out while waiting in line to cross the border from Mex. back into Ca. Had to push the truck at walking speed in traffic for 3 hours, no where to go or get out of the way. Had 4 mexicans come over to help and pushed all the way until we were about 50 feet from the crossing. They were scared to get any closer. Then the border guards helped push it through where another nice group of mexicans asked if I had a tow strap and dragged me down the road to Pep Boys in Calaixico. The top of the stupid plastic plug blew off leaving the threads in the hole. Unscrewed that with a flat head screw driver and took that peice inside, found a differential plug that came in a 2 pack for $4. They didn't have another replacement. Wrapped it in teflon tape, screwed it in, filled with coolant and it's been there ever since. I keep the extra one for whomever loses thiers next.

I dont know who made mine, but I ordered it from DAP. At least I know im not going crazy.
Anyone know of a fix for this? I even bought a smaller o-ring, but it is still too large for the lip of the radiator.

i purchased the plugs from dap and my o-ring did the samething. i screwed the pulg down and tucked the oring back under the plug as i turned. got it as far as it would go with out mashing the oring out.has not leaked yet-knock on wood

I tried that method too, maybe i just dont have enough finese. Ill try that again and see how it works. Thanks for the help

Huh. I have the EE ones and they are great. I broke a plastic one already. THey suck..

I got one at Napa, try a brass washer instead of the O ring.

The trick is to cinch it down tight, but not so tight the o-ring squeezes out. I have 'em on my DI and D-90 without a problem.

Why not group buy from Maxi-Drive. Last I check he charges $7, but that may have gone up.
