my monitor sounds like there is a cricket in it? what could it be? CRT monitor like 3 years old?

That would be your flyback transformer going bad. DON'T open it up and mess with it. There is about 30,000 Killing volts back there.

cool. it just got better but can kinda still hear it knokc on wood... Man always something looks like my tire carrier change will go to a new monitor.....

Well its just like any other electronic or electrical part, they fill them with smoke, so when they die they release the smoke, and turn black so you can see what broke. As for wires, the insulation melts off, so you can see it easy or if its dark you can feel around until you are shocked.

Phillip, not trying to mess with ya to much, but my friend and I tried fixing a big screen TV with a similar problem. After about a month of working on it and replacing parts he decided to sell it because we would have ended up spending more on it to fix it then it is worth new.
