Stuff chipping away underneath?

For about a year now, maybe longer, I have been noticing stuff chip away from underneath. The chasis part. Appears it is some kind of protection for rust, weather, etc.

Will this become an issue in the future? Do I need to get the chasis resprayed or painted with this stuff?

i wouldnt sweat it if you gonna keep the truck and stay in Tx. but i think if you redid the undercoat it would be good idea to get rid of the lose stuff. Would you paint a house that had paint flaking off? Look at Waxoyl pretty good stuff. this rust proofing had been discussed it would be worht your while to search this and the old BB
