D90 SW rear wheel carrier

OK guys and Gals. I know this has been touched upon but I need a rear wheel carrier for my D90 SW. The rattling is going to send me to the nut house. :crazy I want something with some carrying options (hi jack lift, jerry cans etc). Most seem to be for the soft tops and the British Pacific carrier doesn't carry much as far as I can tell. Can I get some info on the difficulty with installation also. Thanks in advance

The old BP/TReK Outfitters one actually carries everything... 2 cans, spare tire, hilift, and has an optional basket that installs on top for even more stuff.

The problem with that unit is that they make more noise than the stock carrier, are mind numbingly hard to install, and that they are not available anymore.

WVA holdings do one that carries the wheel & highlift. I've got one, see my owner bio, also I'm sure there was a thread on just this subject a while ago and I Emailed an article to CVC from Landrover World.

Mike, check out the product reviews on the d-90 page and look aat the Shrock Works Carriers. THey are kick ass looking and strong.

Randy, thats what I am looking for but it says that they are working on a design for the SW. I'll call them to see how its coming. Do you know anything about the rack for the SW? Will I need to change my bumper to the one in hte pics? Thanks.

yes, Jim has made a version for SW's. You might check out their site. I thought I have seen a picture of it.

Yep,that looks prety strong.
I've got doubts about putting the hi lift out the back in all the dust though.
Two summers ago we were out in the Sahara (Oh no here comes another Sahara story) and one truck had a flat, it was duely hi lifted up. The hi lift then jammed, wouldn't go down [stored outside of the truck] another was produced again stored outside the truck. Lifted the stricken LR one notch higher and the first hi lift was removed. You've guessed it the second one jammed, water was poured over it ,still no joy. It was beaten with a hammer, still no joy. I got my hi lift out from inside ( less dusty) {it's a landrover} and it went up and down again.:grin

I agree Mike, I have seen that also (thats how you can tell if someone doen't goes offroad allot, there jack has never been used;) ). It does not happen as much here, so as long as you give it some oil every oil change and use it every now and then you should be fine.

I've left my High Lift stored on top of my tool box in my pickup for years. As long as its oiled its fine. The one time that I didn't oil it failed on me. So I guess oil it regularly and its ok outside.

One of the homemade mods that always stuck with me was some one using a diving wet suit boot to cover the working section of his hilift. Seemed to work pretty good.
