Any suggestions for trails in the Northern VA/Washington DC area? Myself and another buddy with a ST D90 are willing and able.

Clay, there are a good number in the GW forest that can make a good, although long, day trip. If you're willing to travel, there are a few more options like Paragon. Nothing any closer though really -- they've all become townhouses and strip malls.

Hey Clay and Anthony. I live down in Mclean. There are a bunch of trails in the George washington national forest. I've done a couple of them with a Jeep club. Let me know if ya'll want to meet up and run them.

There are also some trails out in western maryland at green ridge state park off of I-68. Drove a few trails last summer. Heard there were some "extreme" roads somewhere. Never found them. Think those trails are pay for play.

I'll happily go out to GW, been years since I was out there. Need to get the suspension sorted out first though.

Hey, thanks guys. This is a good start. I've been on one GW trail a couple of times before. But, like you said, its a long travel day and unless you get out there early you run out of daylight.
I know my buddy from DC and I would love to meet up and hit some of these.

Cool. If you don't mind running with some jeeps there's a ride being planned for this weekend. Saturday morning heading out to GWNF. Not sure of the details yet. Should know as the week progresses.

Keep me posted. They're getting some serious weather down there right now. Do you run chains in stuff like this?

I haven't run chains. Infact just got a set 2 weeks ago. I'd bring them and depending on where we went might use them. If we stayed down in the valley then I'd say no. Up on the mountain yep. Been there skidded down that. I don't think any of the jeepers run chains but hey they are mostly locked, lifted, and not a DD. Mine is a DD so I'm a little more careful. Will keep you informed.

I ended up not going. I did something to my knee friday and didn't want to risk making it worse. Here are some pics for the trip.http://community.webshots.com/user/johndavis2nd

How's the knee?
I'm kicking myself that I didn't go. Those trails look nice.
Do you know how to get there?

Absolutely. Thanks to Flipped rover we had a blast. The trails were great with just enough snow to make you sit up and pay attention.

Don't forget the ice. Next time I'm bringing a bobsled :grin Didn't realise how versatile a 90 is. Its a truck, ice breaker, submarine, and it works great breaking big logs in half too. The high point of the trip was the local chap that came out in his Disco and met us on the trail. He was dressed in a suit and tie for work. Classic Land Rover image or what?

Suit and tie? What's up with that? Sounds like a great time. A long drive from Richmond for a day trip. Might try and do a camping trip when it warms up.
