Wheel / tire set-up

I am running the stock alloy rims with BFG 285/75/16 mud terrains. OME springs (751's and 762's I think, can't recall offhand, but the lift is 2")

Where I am wanting to go is 16 x 6 1/2 wolf rims, and a bigger tire. Not necessarily wider, but taller. What are my options for a tire that will fit without any modification? Options??

1 option: 255/85 is slightly taller, but narrower & will fit 6.5" rims...

with the 2" lift of OME, can you fit the wolf wheels with the 35" swamper setup??

That is one of the combinations I would like to know if it would fit, curious if anyone out there has fit those tires with just the 2"lift. However, the tire may be too wide for a rim width of 6 1/2". Not sure.

Scott, Check out Jorges bio... I thinks its spelled george espinosa on the site though. He is running 36"x12.5 swampers on 6.5 wolf wheels with no problem.

I would prob. go with the 35's though. the 36's are huge.

A 12.5 is too wide for a 6.5in tire. It can be done, but not a good idea. Stick with an 8in rim on a 12.5.

do they have a 8" wide rim for the 16" or do I have to go to a 15" rim?? The Wolfe's look nice, do they make a 8" or do I have to go Safari Gard?

If you are looking to go with 16" wheels then try Trek Outfitters, they have 16X8 steel wheels. Also if I'm not mistaken I think super swamper's have their SSR in 35X10.5X16 but not 100% sure.

I will check those out, but what is your opinion and the board for that matter on a nice 35" tire that is also decent of the street, I understand it won't feel like a BMW but what do you suggest?

I don't think any of the Rover wheels are meant for putting jeep tires on (fat ones). I just put on a set of the Wolfs (6.5") with 235s and next time I think I'll fit the 225s.

MRT or Allied can make you a 16x8 rim (or 15x8 or 17x8) with any backspacing you want. The Allieds, especially, will be stronger than even the Wolf wheels. The MRTs are going to be cheaper, though .... & are still a good rim.

As for tires, seriously consider the MTRs. They're awesome off-road & work well on-road. They're not as loud as the BFG MT(actually quiet for a mud tire) and do a lot better than other mud tires on slick roads because they have so many more 'biting' surfaces. They also wear well, too. I've had 2 sets & will buy another set on my next roadworthy trail truck.

apart from that, there's always the BFG AT. Its OK off-road as long as its not wet, but quiet on-road & has slightly better road handling than the MTR when the roads turn messy.

If you are thinking about MT/Rs, I would seriously consider Interco TrXus instead. They are much cheaper. I have wheeled side by side with these two tires and the TrXus are as good.
