Sealing the D-90 Doors

by Chuque Henry

This may seem simple but this is a set of door holders. Let me explain. On my D-90 soft top, the doors have a habit of flexing out at the front corners when at a decent speed. This lets in air, water, and a whole lot of noise. I decided there must be any easy fix. No matter how tight I cinched down the bolts that hold the top of the doors on, it still flexed out. I just needed someway to pull them in. I had a plan...
These connectors do the trick. The "C" shaped end goes around the bracket that holds the sun visor in place. The "L" shaped end fits into the track that the window slides in. Once inside, all you have to do is pull the window frame tight against the body and slip the "L" into the track. Quick, simple, and holds the door closed tight at any speed. Of course you have to remove them to get in and out, but its a small price to pay. We machined them out of a solid piece of black plastic so they are easy to manufacture.
Here's a quick diagram for those who want to make your own. Let me know if you have any questions!
Another quick, easy, and yes CHEAP fix by Chuque. I took your basic water pipe foam insulation and put it around the leading edge of the door flaps. It works great, but tends to get knocked off easy when you get in and out. The fix? Zip ties. I just zip tied them and place and haven't had a problem since. It does require making a small hole in the top, but it hasn't been a problem. Just dab a little liquid rubber around the holes and it shouldn't ever leak.
