Defender/Series Toolboxes

By Troy J. Smith

I purchased a bunch of parts from a guy shortly after acquiring my 1995 D90 SW. Part of the purchase included two Fabritron storage boxes with the invoice still stuck to them. Anyhow, I thought they were nice but for that price you would think they were gold plated. A few of my buddies with both Defenders and Series trucks began making comments about taking those off my hands. You understand... So I decided I would have some made since Fabritron no longer offers these. I work for a company that owns a sheet metal shop. I took one of the boxes there and they drew the box on CAD and made one of a little thicker gauge that the Fabritron boxes. I told him I wanted ten made for friends around town. We'll a couple of people saw them at Uwharrie Safari and said they would like one or two also. Some more people saw them at MAR. Anyway I took names and numbers and had more made each time. Those are now gone. They are really very nice quality and I am glad folks are enjoying them.

Boxes run around $175 each not including shipping

Ken Loy added locks to his (ones seen pictured below) and added this: "I got two locks from Tuffy which are keyed identical to my console. They fit just fine. All I needed to do was to file down the latch a bit. Call Tuffy, give them their key number, fax a copy, and they're set. I think they were only about $5/ea and I got dust covers, also, for a few dollars more."
